President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the first-ever Northeast Festival in the capital hosted by North Eastern Council and Government of Meghalaya in 2015.
President Pranab Mukherjee said that North Eastern states have contributed hugely in the development of the country. Inaugurating a cultural festival of the North East in the national capital today, the President said North East has immense potential. The festival titled ‘Songs and Dances of the North East’ is an initiative of Meghalaya government and the North Eastern Council.
Almost fifteen thousand people including a large number of young people from the eight North eastern States packed the giant stadium cheering the most popular bands of Northeast. A grand performance of songs and dance by 130 artists from the eight northeastern states – Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim – and their unique dances, choirs and foot-tapping music from their bands was the feature of the day-long festival held here for the first time to acquaint and connect people with the vibrant cultural diversity of this region.
